antibiotic resistance
Antibiotic resistance is a hot topic right now. We’re finding that new superbugs exist – more dangerous than the last. And we’re finding that resistant bacteria is everywhere – including our food supply! This issue isn’t a new one… far from it. We’ve been warned for years that this is a big concern – Alexander Fleming even predicted it decades ago! We teach about responsible antibiotic use and prevention of resistance in our courses – and have since the formation of the school in 2007.
So, I’m prepping a series about resistance. Just the facts… how this happens, why it’s a concern and what we can do to protect our children and their children from entering a pre-antibiotic era soon. We also have some fabulous guest posts from Elizabeth Battle, a Clinical Master Herbalist student with Vintage Remedies on some antibiotic herbs that make great options. Interested? Stay tuned… and if you have specific questions, I’m still tweaking the posts and would love to fit those answers in for you. Just leave your thoughts or questions in the comments below.

The Kitchen Herbal
As you’ve seen on facebook and twitter, our simple little ebook has been revised, updated and expanded – and will be hitting the shelves March first. It’s available now for pre-order on Amazon.com but you can get your copy for FREE if you’re one of the first ten to answer our trivia question correctly. Then, we’ll draw ten more winner from the remaining entries. Yes, you read that right – there will be TWENTY winners today!
The contest will end at midnight tonight and we’ll post the next giveaway tomorrow, right after we post our BIG announcement! To keep it fair, all comments will be held in moderation until the contest is over. We’ll notify the first ten today and the other ten will hear from us tomorrow. (And we’ll post a list of comment #s here as well.)
So, on to the question: The original Kitchen Herbal ebook featured 12 herbs: Basil, Cilantro, Dill, Lavender, Mustard, Oregano, Parsley, Peppermint, Rosemary, Sage, Tarragon and Thyme. The printed edition now has 18 herbs – six new ones! These include: Bay, Chives, Cinnamon, Fennel and Ginger. What is the other new herb in the book?
Each comment can only only have ONE herb listed. You can post as many comments as you like. For clues about the herb, check out facebook and twitter pages. We’ll keep posting clues throughout the day.
UPDATE: Congratulations to our 10 randomly selected winners who chose the correct answer: Anise (or Star Anise)! If you won, either as one of the 1st 10 to guess correctly or as a randomly selected winner, you should have an e-mail in your inbox!
